Checking in and a Detox update

*Virtual Hug* y'all!

It's been a busy few days for me...lots of juicing, chores, errands and blah blah blah! Less than a week until school starts which means back to work for me *sigh*. I think i'm getting too used to the holidays it has made me feel apprehensive about going back...I'm actually dreading the really early wake ups, the morning rush of getting the kids and myself ready for school and out the house on time, and of course the thing I hate the most - finding a parking spot when I get to work! That is my nightmare every damn morning...it's like people want to ruin my day...I mean where the heck do all the cars appear from, it's a quiet residential area not even a main road! Well enough of my ranting, I might as well chill out until i'm actually faced with that dilemma again next week!

Trying to keep hydrated as much as possible - love the Coldpress juice 100% reboot friendly
Check out the funky
carrot I came across!

A quick update on my detox journey, I am currently on day 5 of my 30 day reboot which is where I consume only fruit and vegetables in the form of juice (see my post on detox journey). I must say compared to the first few days of juicing, I now feel great...full of energy (never thought i'd say that as I was always skeptical when others said it) and my weight has surprisingly been dropping off...I have actually lost 4kg already! I have never lost so much in such a short time before...I am also exercising a little more. Today me, my husband and the kids went cycling along the river, it was very relaxing and I was happy knowing that I was burning some calories along the way. So yeah...so far so good, I will keep posting updates on that and wish me luck on the rest of my reboot!

My 30 day Juice detox Journey

*Virtual Hug* to you all!!

Well, I haven't posted in a few days...let me tell you why. I vowed to start a juice detox programme inspired by Joe Cross in his documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. It basically is a 30 day diet (I prefer the term 'lifestyle change') which comprises of fresh juice made from entirely raw fruit and vegetables - CRAZY right? That's what I thought...but it's me we're talking about here, so as soon as I saw the documentary I was convinced...I got on Amazon straight away and ordered a juicer (talk about no second thought).

My juicer came on Wednesday...excited was I! I couldn't wait to start...I made a fruit juice straight away, even my kids were excited and guzzled down the first fruit.

So I didn't exactly start the detox straight away...I decided to go on a Veg/Fruit shopping spree and spent around £40 on just that! I don't think I have ever spent that much on fruit and veg alone.

Day 1 (Thursday 10th April 2014)

I woke up feeling optimistic about my new approach to weight loss...I tried my first recipe from Jason Vale's book '7lb in 7 days':

Lemon/Ginger Zinger
Carrots
Apples
Slice of lemon  where possible, wax free and with the rind on
Fresh ginger
Ice cubes

This one went down really well, I actually enjoyed drinking it. It was light, the lemon gave it a fresh taste and the ginger gave it a nice kick however, I didn't put as much ginger as the recipe called for as I didn't want to shock my taste buds on my first try, I only added a small sliver.

Around lunch time I was feeling very hungry...so I went ahead and made my first green juice - The Green Elixir (taken from 'Reboot with Joe'). The name alone enchanted me, I didn't know what to expect or rather, I naively thought it was going to taste really good...

The Green Elixir

Lots of Kale leaves
Cucumbers
Fennel
Celery
Pears

WOW! This one had me gagging! I tried to drink a whole mouthful but ended up puking (sorry for the graphic info!). It tasted like grass and leaves, perhaps it was because my tastebuds had been robbed of real taste from eating processed food over time! The funny thing was, I got my husband to try it half thinking that I will gain his sympathy - to my surprise he drank the whole jug in one go and said "it's not that bad". Part of me was intrigued and the other part wanted to him push him off a cliff (I think the hunger pangs could be blamed for such evil thoughts hehe), by this time all that gagging and hunger made me feel ill, I decided I was going to eat something as I couldn't take it any longer. I took a slice of pizza from the kid's leftovers and ate it hungrily all the while feeling disgusted with myself that I had given up on the first day. For the rest of the day I had a debilitating headache and was feeling sick from being hungry, no matter what I ate the headache wouldn't go away. I don't think the juice was to blame for this, I get like this when I don't eat...
At around 1 a.m my headache started to ease (I had taken paracetamol and Ibuprofen earlier) and I could think more clearly, I decided I would try again the next morning, I wasn't about to let myself down just yet.

This is me...I welcome you with open arms

*Virtual Hug*

I'm here typing my first post wearing a pair of teeth whitening strips whilst keeping an eye on the time limit. 30 minutes...should be enough to welcome you all and introduce myself before my teeth actually turn ultraviolet. You see, I research and read about something and I often get intrigued and i think "Oh I want to try that!" simply because I can...or at least I will try. So you will get to know what things interest me (very long list) and if it is enough to get me to try it myself, adopt it and move on or dig around for an alternative until it fits in with my lifestyle.

So for the past three days I have been trying this teeth whitening regime, 14 days teeth whitening by Crest. I found a decent priced two-week pack on e-bay and decided upon it after days of reading reviews on different brands, reading people's experiences, watching endless videos on results, checking out pricing, looking at my bank account funds, discussing with my husband, looking at my bank account funds (yes, i'm very thorough). Crest seemed to have the public vote in terms of results and price, there was one other brand that was better due to ease of use and shorter application time, but it would probably burn a hole in your pocket so lets try to be middle people here and go with decent priced one.

Since it would take a few pages of information to tell you everything about me, I will spare you the pain of having to read through all of that but you can read a few facts on my 'about me'
  page!

Uh oh...I think I left these strips on too long...better go and remove!

Peace and Love
